Samar Badwan

Samar Badwan was born in Washington, D.C. raised in North Carolina, active in her community.

She has a Bachelor of Science in Business Education/Information Processing and Administrative Services. She currently teaches children with Autism, developmental delays and typical children with Pitt County Schools for the last thirteen years, and interprets Arabic for parents and students when needed for Pitt County Schools!

Samar sits on several boards of many organizations in Greenville NC. These are including the local Islamic Center of Greenville NC, the Interfaith Alliance of Eastern Carolina , the Community Action Committee with the Greenville police department, the Human Relations Council with the city of Greenville as the Chair, the Interfaith clergy in Greenville, and she works with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Greenville to better communication and dialogue among the youth. She is also on the advisory board of the religious studies department at East Carolina University.

Samar is frequently asked to speak at the local university, East Carolina University, and around the community about women in Islam, culture and refugees. She is also on the board of the Interfaith Refugee Ministry in New Bern, NC, working with refugees that come into Greenville, NC and the board of the Rothermel Foundation in New Bern, North Carolina, a foundation that engages persons who are leading experts in fields such as physical or biological sciences, medicine, humanities, theology and religion to present lectures that are open and free to the public.
